When it comes to sisal carpets, you can either go the natural or the synthetic route. Either way, sisal carpets are ideal for use anywhere in your home. Sisal carpets are often employed in places with high foot traffic or places where you frequent in your living space, and can also be used as a wall to wall carpet or area rug.
Whether natural or synthetic, sisal carpets also require regular maintenance to keep them looking their best. Regularly vacuum your sisal carpet, using a suction only vacuum to get rid of dirt and grime.
Spills and sisal carpets never mix. It just increases wear and soils your sisal carpet. The most important thing to remember about cleaning sisal carpets is never, and we mean never, shampoo nor steam clean the carpet should it come in contact with spills. Simply blot around the spill inward with a clean towel or, if the spills have solids, a spoon, from the outside in.
Depending on the kind of stain that comes into contact with your sisal carpet, you should always have four solutions or these liquid spot cleaners on hand. You should have a solvent; like a dry cleaning solvent, a detergent solution and water (1 tsp detergent without any bleach mixed with 1 cup of lukewarm water), a solution of vinegar and water (1/4 cup white vinegar mixed with 1/4 cup water), and a mixture of ammonia and water (1 teaspoon clear ammonia with 1/2 cup of water).
